El manifiesto de valtravieso

It is a way of understanding wine. It is to look back to our ancestor’s knowledge to make innovative wines. To travel to other hemispheres in spring and then come back home in autumn. A project that will bring to the market a series of innovative and very special wines for lover of curiosities.

A treasure

Ricardo Velasco Pla, technical director and winemaker of Valtravieso, performs every year micro vinifications of unusual and minority combinations to learn from and perhaps market in the future. This is the natural origin of these wines which, although initially experimental, have become one of the winery's most prized treasures.

The Valtravieso Manifiesto project is to learn from our ancestors to make innovative wines. It is to travel to other hemispheres in spring to return home in autumn. It is to value the new ways of understanding wine without losing our roots and essence”.

El Manifiesto 02

It is the second wine created by our winemaker and technical director, Ricardo Velasco, as part of the Range of experimental wines that we elaborate from micro vinifications of combinations unusual and minority.

El Manifiesto 02 It is a tribute to ancestral grapes. "It is a vinification of a old vineyard in which there were other varieties, including many Grenache," he explains. Ricardo Velasco. The result is an explosion of red fruits, A vibrant wine of a varietal nature elaborated with the minimum intervention and from varieties autochthonous of small plots recovered in the Ribera del Duero and harvested by hand.

An exclusive wine with a small production of only 288 bottles.

Manifesto 02 was born with the 2019 harvest, characterized by a dry winter with very high temperatures. low, without snowfall and with a late sprouting of small and concentrated berries, something that has marked Much the style of this experimental project.

A wine from the Land of Castilla y León with a period of 22 months of maturation in oak barrels French that pairs perfectly with white meats, sushi or seafood.

The result: one more step in our commitment to experimentation and redefinition of the limits of wine creativity. Everything, to be able to enjoy new aromas and flavors.

The first El Manifiesto wine

The first wine of The Valtravieso Manifesto project is an Albillo Mayor fermented with whole bunches in open vats where grapes are crushed once a day following the port winemaking technique. Fermentation starts on the skins and after a few days it is transferred to a 300L Stockinger white barrel for aging for about 14 months. The grapes used to elaborate this wine come from Valtravieso's own vineyards at an altitude of 915 meters above sea level.

It is a complex, elegant and extravagant wine with notes of dried flowers and oxidation. The mouthfeel is fresh, unctuous, and creamy thanks to the intensity of dried fruit flavours, such as apricots and sultanas. The finish is saline and refreshing.

Only 387 bottles are produced, which gives this albillo more personality if possible.

Tim Atkin, the prestigious master of wine, just named El Manifiesto de Valtravieso wine in his Top 100 list, based on the tasting of more than 400 samples of Ribera del Duero wines. His nomination for the 'White Wine Discovery of the Year' has been placed on The Podium, where there are only 13 mentions. An outstanding accomplishment for the entire team at Valtravieso who have worked hard to bring this wine to market.
