Moorland wine.
Personality and a unique style
within the Ribera del Duero.

Valtravieso is one of the first wineries to have its own vineyard in Ribera del Duero, located in one of the region’s highest limestone moorlands at an altitude of 915m. From this unique setting where our vineyards and winery are located, we seek to achieve the highest quality in all our processes, with minimum intervention in both the field and in our productions. We thus achieve high altitude wines, in limestone moorland, with a unique personality and style for this area; they are elegant, profound and lengthy. Wines that have tension and comprise mineral and fresh notes.

Viñedos olvidados

We love the land and the wine it produces, as well as the passion and restlessness that drive us to look beyond our immediate surroundings. As a result of this search, the projec Viñedos Olvidados de Valtravieso.

Our goal is to rescue those areas of traditional vineyards that need special care and attention, to discover their hidden treasures and give them the best versions of their native varieties while preserving their essence.

As a result, Valtravieso expands its knowledge and experience in the wine industry to include three other Designations of Origin, such as Arlanza, Jumilla and Ribera del Júcar, offering an Exclusive Collection of five wines with their own personalities, and always with the Valtravieso seal of quality.

Our terroirs

Valtravieso wines are distinctly representative of their terroir. A range of wines from 5 Designation of Origin with very different climates and soils.

Valtravieso in Ribera del Duero elaborates wines born in a moorland, poor and shallow limestone soil at an altitude of 915m and with an extreme climate, constant winds and scarce rainfall. Our estate has unique characteristics that differentiate it from other areas of Ribera del Duero.

In the Rueda D.O. we make our wines in one of the most special areas of the D.O., with the highest altitude and most concentration of pre-phylloxera vineyards. The poor, sandy and gravelly soils with a lot of boulders where the oldest vines are located.

The wines that come from the “Viñedos Olvidados de Valtravieso” project take us to other exceptional and unique places that produce great wines every year.

We fall in love with the D.O. Arlanza, where we find the centenary globet-trained vineyards of Valtravieso, located in Covarrubias and immersed in a dream landscape. Very especial vineyards with an attitude of around 1,000 meters above sea level where the soils are poor, very old and quite deep. The we visit D.O. Jumilla to find ungrafted vines on limestone soils altitudes of 800 meters that thrive in a continental climate influenced by the Mediterranean. Finally, we land in the Ribera del Jíucar appellation, an area characterized by is flattening a plain where some oteros lie. Here the vineyards are located at 750 meters above sea level and are marked by the high temperature contrasts between summer and winter. The soils are deep, clayey-calcareous, covered by a spectacular blanket of boulders on which the vineyards rest.

We manage our vineyard in an eco-logical manner by using manual labour with maximum respect and minimal intervention, selecting only the highest quality grapes in the vineyard. Our goal is to produce wines that reflect the unique identity of each area.

We plant and grow on each plot separately in order to obtain maximum variety and we believe that the wood should not mask the personality of the grape and the singularity of our terroir. We have great respect for the grape and seek to preserve the freshness, natural acidity and minerality our moorland offers.
